May I have a transparent moment with you?
In 2014, my two-year-old son Joshua was diagnosed with a long-term disability that left me feeling devastated and wondering why. I questioned myself, "Could I have done anything differently during my pregnancy? Where did I go wrong?"
Yes, I was crushed for a season, but thankfully I didn’t stay there long.
During this period, my employer was eager for my return to full-time work. See, a year earlier, I had opted for part-time hours to manage Joshua's demanding schedule of therapy and medical appointments. Initially, we believed early intervention would lead to improvement, but soon discovered his condition was life-altering.
Consequently, I informed my boss that I needed to remain part-time to continue attending Joshua's appointments.
His response, “We don’t do part-time here.” 😳
Hmph!
I resigned two weeks later…without any savings or game plan.
But, I had a gift of blogging😊 I used the skills gained over the years learning digital marketing and leaned into that gift to serve hundreds of entrepreneurs, marketing agencies, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies.
Over 1,000+ blogs later, my articles appeared on authoritative sites like Forbes, amassing millions in website traffic with leads and sales to boot.
Blogging paid the bills.
And I know a thing or two about successfully leveraging blogs for your content strategy.

5-Step Checklist to Optimize Your Blog Posts for Traffic, Leads, & Sales
#1 Use SEO Best Practices
Search engine optimization enhances your content with keyword phrases your audience is searching for in Google. It takes some time, but this process is how your content shows up on the search result pages. Use a tool like Ubersuggest, Moz, or RankIQ to find suggested keyword phrases to naturally include in your blog content.
#2 Pop-Ups Work
This tried-and-true method is still in the business of capturing leads. Yes, pop-ups work! Offer something unique in exchange for the email. A template, short-training video, or an irresistible discount are solid lead magnets that convert.
#3 Include Opt-in Forms
Enhance your blogs by embedding forms to capture leads as readers engage with your content. Provide a complementary offer, such as a content piece relevant to the blog topic.
For instance, if your post is titled “10 Practical Steps to Advance DEI Strategies at the Workplace,” consider offering a detailed case study or white paper as a lead magnet. Position the form directly within the blog post for seamless integration.
Here’s an example of what that looks like in one of my blog posts:
#4 Use Sparkloop behind the Opt-In
Fun fact: You can get paid for recommending newsletters! In other words, as you generate leads through forms, by suggesting other industry-related newsletters your audience would be interested in, you get paid $1.50-$4 per subscriber that accepts your recommendations.
Trust me, the dollars add up, especially if you’re generating a good amount of leads daily. Check it out and discover additional ways to drive revenue to pay for marketing.
#5 End with CTA
What do you want the reader to do next? Always conclude with a call to action. Encourage your visitor to schedule a call, check out another blog article on your site, or connect with you on LinkedIn. Whatever you choose, don’t leave them hanging!
